GETTING RID OF THOSE OLD REFRIGERATORS
AND AIR CONDITIONERS IS NOW EASIER THAN EVER
Do you have old operating refrigerators and freezers that you want to get rid of? Until now recycling them has been an expensive hassle because you must have the coolant (Freon gas) professionally removed before anyone would take them. Now for older refrigerators and freezers in working condition, there is good news.
Under a NJ Clean Energy Program, you can have your refrigerator or freezer picked up and hauled away free – even with the Freon gas still in it AND be paid $50.00. This will help the environment in several ways. Since 95 percent of a refrigerator or freezer can be recycled, resources can be preserved. By getting old inefficient units out of service, new replacement appliances will use less energy. Additionally, the safe collection and disposal of the coolant chemicals is critical to preserving the earth’s ozone layer. Call the BPU (877) 270-3520 or visit NJCleanEnergy.com for more information.
As for old inefficient air conditioners in any condition with the coolant gas still in them, they may be taken to the Pollution Control Financing Authority of Warren County’s reclamation center at 500 Mt. Pisgah Road, Oxford, NJ. For a very reasonable fee of $15 each, they will be degassed and processed for recycling. Call (908) 453-2174 for more details.
